2026-06-16

To create a work safety atmosphere where “everyone talks safety and everyone is ready for emergencies,” put frontline employees’ real-world rescue skills to the test, and reinforce the company’s work safety foundation, Huaxi Special Steel sent four frontline employees (Ke Jia from the ironmaking plant, Yang Liu and Wang Wei from the power plant, and Jin Xuetao from the Safety Department) to the “2026 Work Safety Emergency Rescue Skills Competition” organized by the Tangshan Haigang Economic Development Zone Work Safety Committee. The competition included four events for the metallurgical and hazardous chemicals group: men’s air respirator donning, men’s CPR, women’s air respirator donning, and women’s CPR. Drawing on their solid skills foundation and steady on-the-day performance, the four competitors came away with 3 first-place and 4 second-place finishes, giving a full demonstration of Huaxi employees’ strong emergency response capabilities and positive professional image, and bringing honor to the company.

The event was co-organized by the Haigang Economic Development Zone Disaster Prevention, Reduction and Relief Committee Office and the District Federation of Trade Unions. It focused on practical emergency response needs, testing participants on core skills including emergency equipment operation and on-site first aid. Multiple metal smelting and hazardous chemicals production enterprises from the area competed, and the atmosphere was intense throughout. The company’s leadership attached great importance to the competition. The Safety Department carefully selected a team of two men and two women, and the coal gas protection station drew up a training plan and conducted intensive specialized training sessions. Team members devoted their spare time to refining technical details, drilling on the standard movements and building fluency, and working through the key challenges of air respirator donning procedures, CPR compression rhythm, and rescue breathing standards, so that every step of the operation was precise and error-free, which laid a solid foundation for the competition ahead.

On the day of the competition, the whistle was the order and the arena was a battlefield. In the air respirator donning and CPR events for the metallurgical and hazardous chemicals group, the Huaxi competitors remained calm and composed, their movements crisp and precise. Ke Jia from the ironmaking plant competed on two fronts, taking first place in women’s air respirator donning and second in women’s CPR. Yang Liu from the power plant delivered an outstanding performance, claiming first in women’s CPR and second in air respirator donning. Jin Xuetao from the Safety Department demonstrated excellent technique, securing first place in men’s air respirator donning. Wang Wei from the power plant also performed strongly, picking up second place in both men’s events. Throughout, the team’s procedures were standard and smooth, balancing speed and quality, and earned unanimous recognition from the judges and fellow competitors on the day.

Safety at work is never a small matter, and emergency response capability is a critical line of defense. Going forward, Huaxi Special Steel will build on the momentum of this competition and use these outstanding examples as a benchmark to continuously improve its emergency management systems, build out its emergency response team, and deepen work safety and emergency capability development across the workforce. The company will hold emergency response competitions as part of Work Safety Month, organizing employees to take part in hands-on drills with emergency equipment, so as to raise practical emergency skills and ensure that everyone is ready to respond. These efforts will help build a solid work safety “firewall” for the company and contribute to the sustained stability of the Group’s work safety record.
