At 11:18 a.m. on December 8, 2024, the Slab Continuous Casting Project at Huaxi Special Steel began its hot test pour with the continuous casting machine. At 12:39 p.m., the cast billet was successfully demolded, and at 1:08 p.m., the fire-cut machine successfully cut the first steel billet. During the hot test, the equipment operated normally, and the performance parameters met the design standards, marking the successful completion of the trial.

The slab continuous casting machine project involves a semi-radius 11-meter direct arc type machine with 1 caster, 2 strands. The slabs produced are sized at a thickness of 250-400mm and width of 1600-2600mm. The cast billet in this hot test was 1830mm × 320mm, made from Q235 steel.

Since the groundbreaking of the slab continuous casting machine project, the company leadership has attached great importance to it, establishing a project command team to manage the schedule and monitor progress closely. With the spirit of “not delaying for even a day and not slacking off,” the team overcame challenges such as tight timelines, heavy tasks, and a shortage of personnel. The construction units and all involved employees worked together, operating construction machinery non-stop and running 24-hour shifts. Their collective efforts ensured the slab continuous casting machine met the conditions for the hot test and achieved success on the first attempt.
