【Huaxi Special Steel】Power Plant Leads the Way in Efficiency and Cost Reduction
The cost improvement and efficiency optimization strategies implemented by the Group’s headquarters aim to set industry benchmarks in the steel sector. Huaxi Base actively aligns with the directives from the headquarters, implementing the strategies and fostering employee enthusiasm to drive the company's sustainable development.
To optimize drainage pump operations, the plant follows a peak-valley-flat principle for electricity use. During peak hours, the drainage pumps are not activated to reduce load; during off-peak hours, the 75 kW No.1 drainage pump is used to take advantage of lower electricity prices. During flat periods, the 55 kW No.2 drainage pump is used to balance the load and save electricity costs. This strategy saves 200 kWh of electricity daily.
The power plant at Huaxi Base also carried out a technical upgrade on two industrial water recovery pumps, reducing the motor power from 11 kW to 5.5 kW, saving 396 kWh of electricity per day while still meeting production needs. Additionally, a system of inspection personnel managing lighting in electrical distribution rooms was implemented. With 196 fluorescent tubes in use, consuming a total of 5.88 kW, the lights are turned off for 22 hours a day, with a 10-minute inspection every two hours. This system saves 129 kWh of electricity daily.
The power plant also implemented refined control over the lighting system in the boiler and turbine main plant, including layered and zoned control of different wattage lights, adjusting the lighting schedule according to the seasons to save energy. As a result, the lighting system’s operating time was reduced to approximately 10 hours per day, saving 254 kWh of electricity daily. Furthermore, rainwater pumps are now started based on electricity price differences, and cooling water chemical adjustments have been optimized to reduce wastewater discharge and lower energy consumption.
The efficiency-boosting and cost-reduction strategies implemented by the power plant at Huaxi Base may appear as significant changes at first glance, but they are actually part of the Group's broader sustainable development strategy. Continued efforts will remain crucial in the next phases.
